****Menace To Society - What I Wore****

I'm gonna be honest with you guys...outfits posts can be, how do say, tricky at times.  I don't have the best camera for one so indoor photos tend to be ehhh if not ewww and my neighborhood is a little too exposed to just run out and snap a couple pics without the wandering neighbor or two...or three or four....stopping to watch the action.  Not that I will instantly clam up or anything but when these casual observers are those of the "do you need any help" type or the "why not let me take those photos for you" type or even the "so do you think you're some sort of super model...cuz you're not" type, completing the task without becoming involved in some sort of verbal assault is quite challenging and I prefer to avoid unnecessary conflict.  So, to get around being blatantly observed and/or harrassed I have taken to shopping plazas.  It's really a match made in heaven as I am always headed out to do some sort of errand.  Up until today it has not proven to be problematic.  I quicky head to the back parking lot or, with one plaza in particular, to the side overlooking a lake and am able to take more than a few moments and snap away.  This morning was slightly different.

Last night in my slightly under the influence state, I forgot to snap some quick pics and when I woke up this morning hell bent on waffles but all out of mix I threw on what I wore the night before and planned on killing two birds with one stone.  Parked in my usual spot I began to take a few pics before I noticed a car idling near by.  No biggie...it is a parking lot and all.  The car went away and parked.  Next I saw someone out of the corner of my eye watching.  I looked over and am pretty sure it was a sales associate but again I trudged on.  This woman watched for a while and was soon accompanied by another assumed associate and then they both left.  Granted this happened in about 10 minutes, I quickly wrapped up and headed over to the grocery store.  Just as I leaving the parking lot, a cop flew into it right to where I was just stationed.  He drove around for a bit and as I began cross into the other parking lot here he comes circling around.  I get out of the car and walk toward the store and again here he comes from around the back of the store.  Luckily when I came out he still wasn't circling the lot and I hate to speculate but I really do think my "suspicious activity was reported."  Now I'm scrambling trying to figure out a new location to snap looks to avoid another call to the authorities....if that was the case.

Anywho I could just be paranoid...it was rather early and I was still half asleep being driven by the extreme need for Belgian waffles and coffee so maybe I will try again during a busier time of the day when my actions will go less noticed.  But now for the pics....

****Legs On Parade - DIY Skirt****

So,at some point during my usual streetstyle blog perusings I came across these pics.....

and lets just say I became a little obsessed with slits.

Really obsessed...

I talking so obsessed I didn't even think twice about taking my perfect fit black maxi skirt and putting a pair of super sharp, straight from the store sharp, scissors to it in an attempt to ensure I became a member of the mile high slit club.

Blouse-Bar III(Macys), Skirt-Express, Tights-Hue, Boots-Wet Seal

Thankfully I'm extremely satisfied with the end result and it was actually quite easy to do.

If you want to try it out yourself.....
  • First you need to find willing participant.  Skirt or dress it doesn't really matter
  • Next you want to get a pair of good scissors
  • While wearing the skirt mark where you want the shortest length to fall (I did so by snipping the section with the scissors)
  • You also want to mark the path from that section to the bottom hem...the path of graduation so to speak (again I made a few snips down the skirt)
  • Now let the cutting commence and remember, slow and steady wins the race
  • Lastly throw it and go party!!!
I can't wait to wear this baby out but am now looking for the perfect sheer maxi, with multiple layers, to create a really dramatic version.  And although I don't mind DIY'ing (there's nothing more rewarding than wearing something you've made) I find it rather annoying that when a trend I'm partial to is identified I have to scour various retail locations that claim to provide "the latest" or "on trend" merchandise only to discover they sell the same crap from last year just like every other store in the vicinity or they chose to follow another trend.  Now clearly this open slit skirt is available and most likely there are some that fall within a certain price point deemed reasonable by the likes of Vogue or Bazaar but unfortunately its still out my ever diminishing shopping budget.  This is exactly what happened about 2 or 3 years ago when I found myself pulling out teeth looking for leather shorts.  I looked everywhere and only managed to find the $100+ variety and most of those were found online.  It wasn't until last year that I was able to locate a couple pairs in store.  I guess that means technically I could wait a while and hope to find one but I've kinda lost my patience with that sort of thing....lol
