It was my birthday on Saturday (woo hoo)...another year older and I still feel like a freshman in high school which could be taken as a good or bad thing depending on who's asked. Anywho, I bought these shoes so long ago and have talked about them a little too much for an item that has never seen the light of day. It only seemed right to don them on such an occasion and I have to say they were a pleasure to wear except for the brief break when I slipped into some flats for a mile walk in the freezing cold to the museum. (The weather is always depressing for my birthday with it being winter and all) As for the pants, having loved them in orange I figured I could definitely use them in black so I bought them. If you are a huge fan of H&M like I am you should definitely sign up for their mailing list. I've gotten 2 coupons from them and with their prices already hitting the sweet spot, the deals get even better. I'm just wondering who do I talk to about getting these pants made in mint green and pastel pink.....I think that would be perfect don't you? I originally wanted to pick up these pants from American Apparel but good lord $75!!!! Spending that just didn't to seem to settle well in my stomach. Maybe another time when its not rent week or I can catch one of their warehouse sales.

As for the necklace, stay tuned for the DIY coming soon. I got a little wire happy this weekend and my coiled wire ring post won't be last involving the amazing material...sorry. Other than that my weekend was perfect and it really sucks that its coming to an end.

Simple By Design - DIY

The Inspiration:

WHAT YOU NEED:

Tarnish-free wire
Wire cutters
Ring mandrel

WHAT TO DO:

Cut a lengthy piece of wire
Wrap said wire around mandrel about one size smaller than your actual (the ring is open so it will give and you don't want it too loose)
Slide off mandrel and wear out

Another quick DIY for the girl in a rush and today I am especially anxious as its my B-Day!!! I came across the inspiration in an Etsy treasury and with so much wire lying around I instantly went for it. From delicate gold bands and simple chain rings, I've been seeing quite a bit of finger adornment going on and wanted in. I love how simple it is yet extremely interesting....and not so delicate. If the loose wire ends bother you, don't hesitate to wrap them around one of the chaotic coils. Wouldn't want your new bauble snagging that favorite sweater of yours.

Anywho, I'm off for a fun day in the cold (yes it finally decided to start acting like winter today) and stay tuned. All this wire work got me inspired and another project is on the way....

In the wake of the Jason Wu x Target catastrophe and H&M's notoriously selective allocation of designer collaborations, I cannot wait till March for Marni's scrumptious pieces to hit. Besides, with the hype growing over the partnership the possibility of resellers swarming stores and grabbing up the good stuff before we can get to it is very high. That is unless H&M decides to crack down on such unfair practices. None the less I am getting off topic. In many of the pictures floating around all I can see is a neckline in full bloom and I all I kept thinking was I want it.

Which brings us to this DIY.

WHAT YOU NEED:

White Orchid Stem
Needle Nose Pliers
Wire Cutters
E-6000
Chain
Cord End Caps

WHAT TO DO:

Remove excess stem
Take cord end caps and attach to either end of orchid cluster. Add a dab of glue of extra security if you need it. With my caps I had to squeeze either end around the stem tightly so glue wasn't needed.
Attach chain to caps
Wear out

I chose orchids only because out of all the faux florals at my craft store these looked the least cheap. You can use any flower you find appealing and if its too much bloom don't hesitate to trim down the flowers. Just make sure to snip right at the main stem so no one can tell it was plucked. Super easy and you didn't have to fight for it....lol

With every purchase lately I am one step closer to ridding my closet of its dark and moody vibe thanks to my all black work dress code. The latest injection of color is this metallic cobalt blue number which was a steal at H&M and technically a children's garment. Now, maybe its just me but when did 11yr olds become so stylish. I see them running around my local mall and coming into the store with their mothers but the one's I come across do not look like the young lads and lasses in the ads. I would like to say the stylish parents are purchasing the pieces but at that age, especially with girls, its very difficult for the two groups to agree on anything.....

But now I'm going off on a tangent..

Anywho. I snagged this sweater, a kelly green mini and a new beanie all for under $20. Add the cost of the vibrant (a bit more than the "Just Bitten" name suggests) lip stain and I still haven't spent over $30. Gotta love a good deal

Feels So Rough

Sunday is such a twisted day. Its normally the most relaxed day of the weekend but still filled with a dash of anxiety as it means the work week grind is about to begin again. This Sunday began on a really great note for me. Last night included a new restaurant with great food, time spent with my boyfriend and a few wonderful new discoveries.

The first would be the lost gold leggings I bought quite a few years back. Why on earth would I purchase gaudy gold leggings you ask? Well, I blame Balenciaga circa their SS 2007 collection and Beyonce. I could not even attempt to afford the metal leggings she wore on tour and to be honest I am not even sure if they made it to production but when I walked through Target one day and saw the metallic lovelies gleam at me and then saw the extremely reasonable price tag I figured why not. Into my closet they went hidden only to be brought out a few times in an attempt to be configured with other pieces of wardrobe but each time the attempt was meant with failure. They did travel with me to Vegas as I thought if there would ever be a perfect time to wear them it would be there but again no such luck. While cleaning out my closet yesterday I once again found them and decided to make them feel better after years on the closet floor with a small role in post. Who knows..I may eventually get around to wearing them out.

As for the second discovery, that also happened while cleaning out my closet. I tend to blast music while taking on the long winded task of deciding what will go from the floor back into the closet and as I was trying on a pair of jeans I found myself more interested in the background noise. Turns out I was listening to Gotye and from the indie cool video and extremely chill vibe of the song I was hooked. By 8pm Saturday night I had their album "Making Mirrors" and the CD has been playing ever since. Buying the CD was also a new experience for me as well. I haven't purchased one since Sade's last album and I don't download much music either (atleast not since I received a virus from one of those sites...lol). It was actually quite nostalgic seeing as music stores haven't upgraded much since high school. On a complete side note, they really should opt for a complete overhaul of the music store concept. Maybe docking stations to purchase and download directly to your phone and offering discounts for doing so. Also it would help to have knowledgeable employees. In an industry being attacked violently by the internet, it sure felt like they were just taking and preparing to just give in and shut down. Anywho, after employing the help of a few associates who had no idea what group I was looking for, I managed to find the CD.

But that was my pretty much my weekend give or take a few drunken comedic episodes and movie. Hope your weekend was splendid and do enjoy the video....

Luckily for me I spend way to much time on Etsy and in the process of making a treasury to post, JCMcCairnsCottage Shop popped up. Filled with a tasteful selection of the most crafty uses for antlers, I couldn't stop imagining twirling my hair up into a very artsy bun and securing it with one of the tools. I can confidently say that come resort season I will not be rushing off the Bali or Tahiti. My luxurious beach vacation will include the usual early morning trespassing onto private beaches with friends scouting out the perfect sandy spot. Beverages will come in coolers instead of by waiter and after the day is over we will all retire to either someones basement or our own homes. Despite the extreme difference I am completely at peace with my future summer plans and what will make it even better is a frock or two from Cynthia Vincents 2012 Resort Collection. Filled with easy to wear pieces, amazing prints and bold but feminine colors, I can't help but wish it was summer now...

If I Were A Machine...

....I'd be about as rusty as "Mimsie" my Subaru. I don't get manicures, I couldn't bear allowing someone to touch my feet (I'm insanely ticklish), my job is about as brutal on my skin as an hour spent in an arctic climate and I on average visit the salon once a year. Well, after the holiday season came to an end I finally managed to get off my ass and take myself in for some routine maintenance. Me and my mom drove ourselves through the second snow storm of the season a weekend or two ago in one hilariously slippy ride to our joint appointment. I enjoyed a nice glass of wine, got my hair relaxed and chopped off a few inches. Also squeezed in a quick eyebrow taming. Once we got back home I ran and grabbed a slew of much needed beauty essentials, gave myself a manicure (yeah despite the clearer mind thanks to the groomed hair my new outlook did not lead me to a manicurist...lol) and when I returned to work on Monday I felt like a completely new person. But as usual that only lasted about a day and once thrown back into my regular schedule my ends look as ratty as a shaggy coat on a stray dog, my nails are once again jagged and uneven and although my skin is more moisturized and softer than normal, its back to feeling dry and itchy. Now I don't even feel like I had the beauty and I am beginning to wonder why I don't stay on top of important things such as keeping my hands from feeling like Brillo pads.

Any who, I wore this out over the weekend as it was unseasonably warm. I have been living in this sweater from Express ever since I got it and was really made to see that they did not have it in any other color left. I also discovered that my shorts fit a bit more snug than usual so I have once again started Pilates and Yoga. I would love to take classes at a studio but am currently so appreciative of the multitude of lessons for free thanks to On Demand. Nothing beats being twisted into uncomfortable positions or making awkward, I can't believe this bitch on tv isn't sweating after this 45min long lesson face while in the comforts of your own living room.

As I was simultaneously trying to figure out what I will be wearing out tonight for appetizers and drinks with my boyfriend, listing a few new pieces on Etsy and catching up on all the Blogger/Tumblr/Pinterest posts I came across this simple yet perfect necklace from Tom Binns. I loved it until I saw the cost $70. Yeah that's pretty nominal in comparison to other pieces we drool over everyday but why pay that when you could DIY it and pay under $5.

USE THESE:

pliers
long gold chain ( $1 necklace from dollar store - trashed the pendant it came with)
large safety pin ($2 at craft store)

DO THIS:

Bend safety randomly. You many need to used two pliers depending on how thick your safety pin is
String chain through safety pin
Wear out proudly

It doesn't get any simpler than this ladies..

I had it shipped to my parents and finally this weekend I didn't have to work so I was able to head over for a visit. Funny story. Around the same time these babies shipped to the house, my parents were expecting their xmas gift (both got new sneakers and clothes) so lets just say they were a prematurely excited about the delivery. My dad immediately thought the box contained his sneakers and to his surprise a pair of 6" leopard wedges were inside. Unsure about what was going on he immediately called my Mom at work while looking over the box. As soon as he saw "Nasty Gal" on the label he asked my mom exactly what is our daughter into these days.....lol. I had to physically show him the site to prove to him I didn't buy them from a stripper store.

Set It And Forget It - DIY

Its Monday afternoon, I got out of work at 5AM this morning and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that even with four items on a shelf, an associate can still manage to count it wrong.

MIND BOGGLING

So with that, I can't be bothered with to much mind usage today meaning a very simple DIY post that I'm in love with. Its as easy as the title suggests and similar to that infamous infomercial. Shall we..

YOUR LIST:

Stones (various sizes will look best I think and I used dyed howlite)
Plain cuff
E-6000
Thin gauge gold wire

DO THIS:

Add a dab of glue on to the stones and position on cuff
Let this sit overnight
Once dry wrap with wire and tuck end underneath stones(wrapping it around itself) or inside bead holes
Wear out and accept compliments like a pro

I told you it was simple. Now I'm probably gonna go back to sleep for a bit before I have to go back to work.

To this day it still baffles me why so many people are oblivious to the only gifting/crafting/time wasting resource a person needs. Nonetheless though, for every person I find unaware a hundred new people start up shop and its always a pleasure discovering. After seeing a snippet on the brand Qoo Qoo, I just had to know more and now I where my soon approaching birthday gifts to self will be coming from. Oh yes and I am referring to one of the most hilarious shows running. Why you may ask? Well after the ball dropped and we found a comfy spot to sit at the lounge, my attention was above the bar at the TVs airing the show. I kept wishing there were headphones to plug in somewhere so I could listen. And just in case you don't already think I'm weird, when my ability to watch the screen was interrupted by my fellow intoxicated patrons looking for their next drink and wondering exactly why I was staring at them (even though I wasn't) I began watching the small TV built into the couch....that was on Fox News. I guess I have the weirdest bar behavior around but outside of that my NYE night out was loads of fun. An attempt to keep money in our pockets and out of the bartenders drawer was foiled by the completely ridiculous bag checks and after a Long Island and shot of tequila I decided my growing buzz could be put on the back burner until we got home....the shot was $10 and a mere droplet.

As for my outfit, I originally planned on donning a lovely orange skirt that bought last week but I wasn't sure we would be inside all night long so when ahead and chose the more practical option.They are high-waisted, extremely comfortable and quite versatile all of which makes the $25 a great buy. In the original plan the shoes of choice were to be gold but after much dilemna and a unsure purchase later, I came across my old Betsy Johnson heels and decided to go with them instead. I love the lime green contrast and sculpted heel, something my camera didn't quite pick up all to well. Topping everything off was the chunky necklace I made before we left.

With no morning hangover, money still in my pocket, a bottle of champagne and vodka still left over I have to say my 2012 started out on a great note. What about you??

How unfortunate is it that my newest pair of Steve Madden snake skin pumps enjoy digging into the top of my feet constantly while walking....It only took 1 hour and I was already running back to the car to slip into some flats. Normally I deal with this sort of pain because I just had to have a pair of shoes so bad I took a size smaller. This time they are my size, slightly to big judging by the way my heels kept slipping out, and still the pain. Hopefully I can have a cobbler stretch the top piece up to avoid the digging otherwise it is such a shame....

Hope your Christmas was awesome and you got exactly what you wanted. I know I asked Santa for sleep and I got that plus my all time favorite perfume Flowerbomb. Other than that I just spent the days off in between my hectic work schedule with family and tons of food. I am pretty sure I will be wearing the bird top and orange skirt for New Years Eve. Every year I get fanatic about what to wear and end up spending the whole day looking for items that only exist in my head and by the time we get ready to head out I am exhausted. That coupled with a few drinks leads to me looking for a dark corner to power nap in so I'm gonna make it easy. All I need to finish the look is a pair of navy blue socks and gold stappy heels.

And yes I will be freezing my ass off upon entry to the club but its the price with Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon off I will have enough time to nurse my cold....lol

Okay, so at this point we are all out of valuable time when it comes to holiday gifts. Work today was a hectic and most of the shoppers had no clue what to buy so they just bought any old thing. I had girlfriends wondering if Nautica was an appropriate brand for their 20 something boyfriend while simultaneously asking me if a medium would work for him if he stands in at 6'2 (why they don't know sizes is beyond me). Everyone wanted to know where the pajama sets were and my sweater tables were destroyed as they frantically searched for that last size large. Chances are most of the poor people who wind up last on the gift buying list will end up receiving duplicates of the same item and, well, that's more embarrasing for the gifters than the giftees.....how much louder can that department store brand sweater scream "I completely forgot about you and this was all they had."

Xmas Rush DIY 002

Everyone has a fridge and, well, unless Chanel collaborated with Kenmore recently (and if so please leave a the link in a comment below...I may not own a home but that doesn't mean I don't need a very fancy designer appliance....lol) every single one could use a bit of sprucing up. And that's where round two of my holiday DIY posts comes into play. Using broken jewelry I'm sure we all have (or vintage pieces just acquired for the task at hand) you can easily turn the stark white rectangle in that room we all usually hate to use into something a bit more eye pleasing.

YOUR LIST:

Old earrings (vintage clip ons or pierced variety will do)
E-6000
Nips
Magnets (found at craft store)

WHAT TO DO:

First things first we need to remove any trace of the future magnets past life. It may be slightly difficult with the clip on earrings but try to severe it as much as possible. With the earring posts one simple snip will do.

Now whip out the handy E-6000 and get to gluing. Be wary though, only a droplet will suffice and we want to make sure the end result is neat and doesn't look like we did this over a bottle of white, tiramisu and sitcom re-runs. We want the receiver to feel like we worked very hard to please and surprise them. I was lucky enough to find magnets pre-cut into the perfect sized circles. If you find yourself in no such position they did have rolls of magnetic strips in various widths and the pre-cut squares.

Take another sip of your favorite poison and a bite of that savory snack while you let these bad boys dry. Hell you could even go to sleep. Its best to let them set overnight.

And your done. Just wrap it up nicely and gift away.

First I want you to breathe...

Good, now read on for this easy to do DIY that won't break the bank. Oh...your done with your shopping? Got everyone on the list? Even the Under $10 Secret Santa gift? Well fine then over achiever, you can read on just for fun....

YOUR LIST:

E-6000
Flat top ring bases
Scrapbooking Fabric Covered Stickers/Buttons

NOW DO THIS:

Pick out the scapbooking buttons you want to use and the ring bases
Add a dab (very small amount so it wont get messy) to the center of ring base top
Add button
Place button fabric side down on a flat surface to dry
Adjust ring base if slippage occured during last step
Let dry for 24 hours

The aisles at your local craft store will seem to be littered with scrapbook materials so the hardest part will be determining which ones to buy. You can get specific ones for certain friends or relatives and still have money left over for a candy bar to snack on while waiting in line.....

Oh yes, the lines will be long and filled with screaming children and disgruntled husbands/boyfriends who don't understand why they couldn't just wait in the car despite the purchase being for his mother/sister/grandmother/aunt. You may even witness the rare occurance of an upset shopper who swears the sign said $2.99 instead of $4.99. You never know...

Bargain hunting has been rather easy lately with the plethora of amazing deals retailers have been throwing at me...and hopefully its not just me either cuz I'm gonna run out of money before New Years Eve if it is and I haven't even purchased the outfit for that night...lol. This time around I have snagged a deal from Macys and what a deal it was. Lets start with the shoes which were originally $110 from BCBG. I got them for $28. And the shirt was originally $40 but jumped in my bag for only $8. Now the kicker was the $10 off coupon that was in flyer so instead of $36 it was $26. How can one feel bad about that.

If you've got free time and a little extra cash next Tues/Wed then I would suggest heading on over to the dreaded mall ( I know, I know..this time of year the mall is an absolute war zone) because another $10 off coupon will be available and another great sale will be happening.

Came across these amazing snapshots of Freja for Numero from 2009 and it seemed almost entirely to perfect for a lesson that a certain sales associate should learn. Wearing my favorite glittery gold oxfords (see here) that I grabbed at Macys for only $7, a sales associate came up to me and complimented the shoes. Before he could even finish the compliment he immediately asked "Oh are those Toms..." to which I replied "Uh no, I got these from Macys..."

...

....

To say that his fashion smitten face dropped faster than a baking cake in a room full of toddlers would be an understatement. It was as if I told him I found them in trash just now...which if I had seen these babies in a relatively non-stinky trash I would have pulled them out...and he had caught a whiff of someone's moldy leftovers. ~~Since when did Macys become the epitome of super cheap attire~~. Scratch that, when did it become fashionably irresponsible to wear something out of one of the oldest shopping establishments. Mind you I was standing within the four walls of Ralph Lauren but I still feel the response was completely distasteful.

But as for the lesson...

If you can't decipher a private label department store brand from a currently over hyped, seen everywhere brand then maybe...just maybe the brand really isn't all its cracked up to be. Because it should be instantly recognizable without a question

If you follow me on twitter you would have seen the tweet about the amazing sale I ran into at Urban Outfitters the other night. Every sale item was an additional 50% off and I immeditately started grabbing up some of the coveted items I've been stalking. Despite going in with about 12 items, I managed to use a bit of self control and only grabbed the two items I was most excited about and knew I could wear immediately. Sometimes, and I'm quite sure you are familiar with this problem, I end up buying something that is super cute but once in the closet completely isolates itself. A good deal can get really expensive if you have to buy more just to wear it. If you have a local U.O. you should definitely swing by and see if anything you had your eye on is now even cheaper.

As for the leather shorts, my third pair by the way, from H&M I just couldn't pass them up. They fit just like a favorite pair of broken in denim shorts and for the price it would have been a crime not to. I also swung by my favorite rock shop for supplies and left with a handful of natural beauties. Stay tuned to see what becomes of the pyrite, amythest, and citrine quartz.

*Brook & Lyn DIY Part I**

After being inspired by Brook & Lyn's Spring 2012 collection many posts ago, I have finally gotten around to documenting the DIY. As the title suggests, this is only Part I. With so many different ideas filling my head I decided to break it up a bit...the last thing I want to do is overload you guys.

The List:

Embroidery thread
Leather/Suede scraps
Sharp blade
Ribbon clamps
Scissors
Fabric glue/ E6000
Small pieces of glass (found at local craft store)

Get your supplies together and cut your embroidery thread to the length that you like. I chose 5 colors and used all 5 twice.
Use one of the ribbon clamps to hold together the strands on one side. A dollop of fabric glue works well here as it keeps all the threads together.

Cut out your shapes and on one piece of the leather, using your sharp blade, create the window where the mirror will peek through
Glue the mirror to the bottom leather piece
Return to your embroidery thread and twist the strands together. While remaining twisted, use your last ribbon clamp to secure it.
With the the rope now created, center the bottom leather piece with the glass underneath your rope. Line up the top leather piece over the rope and glue.
Add your necklace clasps and rock your new fabulous necklace...even if it is a bit early.

Although the circle has its own allure, try playing around with other shapes for a more modern look and stay tuned for more Brook & Lyn fun...

**beware of glue residue and allow your piece to dry thoroughly. if you're feeling anxious ( like I was) its best to wait so you don't ruin your hard work..lol**

The super adorable kitten trio that was just recently introduced into my neighborhood. The mother is deathly afraid of people making it even more difficult to pet the kittens but me and boyfriend have been slipping them tuna every once in awhile so hopefully they see us as a friend and I can hold one. I really would love to see the whole family in a great home (we can't have pets in our complex and my boyfriend is slightly allergic so I can't take them in) but many of the shelters in the area aren't accepting adult cats and I would never break up the family. I just check up on them everyday and make sure they are doing well. I will definitely snap some pictures soon to show you :)

So you got a tad roughed up this Black Friday. Its okay and it should have been expected...people are just animals when savings are involved regardless how miniscule they may be. For those of you reading this at home, you've probably just got in after waiting in line since 11pm last night still partly comatose from dinner and dessert and possibly one to many drinks. You weren't on your A game and less than prepared for the door opening rush and sweater/denim/bag/shoe grabbing that went on after. As a retail slave veteran please let me reassure you that those $9.99 boots at Macys will be there next week again and that $5 dress at H&M will probably only go up to $10 two weeks from now. I truly believe that big brother behind the lens of the security cameras continually put us through this agony merely for their enjoyment.

For those of you reading this while still out hoping that your mother/aunt will just give up on finding that damn Kitchen Aid Stand mixer attachment for your Grandmother that's 30% off...I feel for you and for the love of god just tell its 1pm and the morning specials are over. She too is completely delirious and has no concept of time so chances are she won't realize the game until she's left the store and by that time won't even want to reclaim her position in line. You should be at home with spiked cocoa and pumpkin pie not dodging microwave wielding grandmothers, infuriated sales associates and horribly annoying elevator music. JUST GO HOME!!!!

Besides, you can do so much lovely shopping from the comfort of your couch and still rake in the savings. Just enjoying a full stomach after a big breakfast and a small break before I get back into the kitchen to work on dinner. Its just me and my better half this Thanksgiving as the new position at work requires me to be much more of a retail slave. Worked late last night to get ready for tomorrow and I go in super early for a long, arduous and slightly exciting 12hr shift. Its been over a week since my last post but now that the kick off to the holiday shopping season has come, and technically for me gone, I will resume blog normalcy. Hope everyone has a great day spent with loved ones and remember to get some rest before joining the rest of the world in the annual fight for savings. Planning will be your best defense so make sure you know what you want and where it is located and have all your coupons and cards handy. Niceness will be thrown out the window and courtesy will turn into an 8 letter word no one will know. Outside of that remember its not all ending if you don't get that 14 inch 3D portable gizmo for $29.99 that each store only got a dozen of. It will be on sale next week for only a bit more....

As for the snapshot, courtesy of Fashion Gone Rogue, its from the Barneys Holiday 2010 Catalog featuring Kirsi Pyrhonen. And why did I choose this you ask? Well this past weekend I ventured down to the outlets and as usual walked right into my heaven....Barneys. With a ton of designers from Chloe to Lanvin to Balenciaga to Louboutins the selection was beautiful and the price made it fantastic. Everything was an additional 40% off the ticketed price and...well...who could resist that. Next stop was the Off 5th Ave store with a more impressive round up of shoes. Normally they offer their fair share of L.A.M.B., Sam Edelman, and Kors but this time we saw ACNE, Margiela and Elizabeth and James.

Good, so what I am trying to say is that instead of standing in line at your local mall with all the others why not make it a special event, like Black Friday should be, and hit up your local outlet mall with a gaggle of your friends and family. I say gaggle so that upon entering say Donna Karen, you all can spread out like a well trained ninja clan and grab everything of interest only to meet in a central location 15 minutes later with your finds. It will be sooo worth it, trust me.

Suede Coin Purse Necklace- DIY

Some time ago I came across a picture of suede pouch necklace and told myself I should make one. That was about a year ago and here we are today. Talk about procrastination. Anywho, as long as you have a leather needle and a sharp blade this is one super easy DIY.

And your shopping list should look something like this..

leather/suede scraps (grabbed a scrap bag from craft store for $4)
leather needle
embroidery thread
button
long chain
X-Acto
straight edge

Now lets get started...

For a straight edge I ended up using my clay knife but a ruler or a book would work just the same.

Determine the size and shape of your pouch and for clean lines slice with your blade.

Fold the bottom part of fabric up leaving just enough remaining fabric to create the flap.

I wanted to use a contrasting pop of color so I chose coral embroidery thread. Because even with the specific needle puncturing the fabric can still be difficult, I once again used my blade and created the wholes first. It made the process so much easier and faster. Line you straight edge along the side so that the holes will all line up.

Using your leather needle, thread it and begin to sew up on side of the pouch. You want the stitching to go along the outside so making the back side of the pouch your initial entry point, pull the needle up through the hole, wrap around the outer edge and back up through the next whole. Repeat this all the way up that side ensuring that the excess thread ends up again on back side. Tie off the ends.

Now, with one side still untouched, grab your button and figure out how you want it to close. I decided to put my flap on a slant which required me to use the straight edge and blade to trim off the excess. I figured out where I would like my button to sit, sliced an opening in the flap just large enough to get the button through and then sewed the button on.

I sewed up the other side the same way and then added some decorative stitching along the border of the flap. Next I sliced a small hole on the back side of the flap for my large jump ring and attached the chain.

I wanted the chain to be long so that this would make a great layering piece. With Christmas in less than 60 days, this is a great present for any friend, cousin or Secret Santa party at work.

The funny thing about this top is that as much as I love it, and I really do love it, I tend to wear it more around the house than outside. In fact I think it has only had to rather short debuts outside the confines of our apartment. Baffling really. As for the ring, after being inspired by the photo below I remembered one of the many pieces I picked up on a sourcing trip recently and whipped it up. Hopefully this new favored piece actually gets to see the outside more than my favorite shirt....
