****Call Me Kitty - What I Wore

Blouse - H&M, Shorts - Bar III, Necklace - Naughty Baubles, Bag - RACHEL Rachel Roy, Bracelet/Ring - Vintage, Shoes - H&M

I couldn't stop wearing these two pieces over vacation.  The leopard print blouse is absolutely perfect.  A bit oversized and pretty sheer, this was a last minute by before we left and I'm glad I snagged it.  As for the shorts I've been eyeing them for a while at my job and then finally they went down so I new I had to grab them fast.  With 85 degree weather and some pretty humid days, this combo worked so well for in keeping me cool.  Plus it worked weather we went to the beach, went for a walk or a boat ride (all of which we did this day to be exact).  The shorts also come in a cool large scale floral print and I'm contemplating whether or not I need those two...guess we'll just have to see.

On a completely separate note can I just give these flats a round of applause. Not only did they last the entire trip but we walked at least 15 miles (although my fiance swears it was much more than that) the whole week with part of that including some light rock climbing. Plus I never slipped getting on or off the boats.  Completely thrilled about that...LOL

****Thistle and Lavender****

Getting the opportunity to do a bit of antiquing while on vacation has my mind thinking delicate lace, dried flowers, quirky details, white washed woods and hints of metallic.

****Monkey Business - Etsy Finds****

Came across another cool vintage store on Etsy today and just wanted to share.  The name is La Petite Marmoset and the shop is filled with cute vintage pieces you'll want to wear tomorrow.  You should definitely check it out..

****Xmas Rush DIY 002****

Everyone has a fridge and, well, unless Chanel collaborated with Kenmore recently (and if so please leave a the link in a comment below...I may not own a home but that doesn't mean I don't need a very fancy designer appliance....lol) every single one could use a bit of sprucing up.  And that's where round two of my holiday DIY posts comes into play. Using broken jewelry I'm sure we all have (or vintage pieces just acquired for the task at hand) you can easily turn the stark white rectangle in that room we all usually hate to use into something a bit more eye pleasing.

YOUR LIST:
  • Old earrings (vintage clip ons or pierced variety will do)
  • E-6000
  • Nips
  • Magnets (found at craft store)

WHAT TO DO:
First things first we need to remove any trace of the future magnets past life.  It may be slightly difficult with the clip on earrings but try to severe it as much as possible.  With the earring posts one simple snip will do.

Now whip out the handy E-6000 and get to gluing.  Be wary though, only a droplet will suffice and we want to make sure the end result is neat and doesn't look like we did this over a bottle of white, tiramisu and sitcom re-runs.  We want the receiver to feel like we worked very hard to please and surprise them. I was lucky enough to find magnets pre-cut into the perfect sized circles.  If you find yourself in no such position they did have rolls of magnetic strips in various widths and the pre-cut squares.

Take another sip of your favorite poison and a bite of that savory snack while you let these bad boys dry.  Hell you could even go to sleep.  Its best to let them set overnight.

And your done.  Just wrap it up nicely and gift away.

Don't have the time?  Just head on over to the Blog Shop and follow the instructions...

****Vintage Renewal 001 - DIY****

Embellished collars and chokers seem to be a pretty exciting trend right now and it got me to thinking about a different spin on adorned neckline idea.  So with a vintage tie from Grandpa, a couple random buttons from a craft store variety pack, a needle and some thread I got inspired.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Neck tie (vintage or not)
  • Sharp blade
  • Invisible thread (It was late and my sewing skills are the best so I figured most of my mistakes would be hard to see with invisible thread.  You could you what ever thread you like)
  • Needle
  • Buttons
  • Pins

So first you want to play around and come up with a good pattern.  This took quite some time for me especially as I started working around to the other side of the piece.  It would be a good idea to, every so often, put it around your neck to make sure it's  laying properly. Once you've got your design down, tack it in place.

Now get to sewin'

With it all sewn in place, grab the buttons (I used three) and mark where you would like to lie.  Make a narrow slit in the fabric just long and wide enough for the fastening button to get through.

To keep the piece looking refined I made an attempt at finishing the button hole with contrasting ice blue thread.  I just sewed around the whole enclosing the freshly sliced fabric. Now first I want to put it out there that I am not the best sewer and also to keep the giggles to yourself when you scroll down to the next picture.

It's pretty scary but lucky the button cover most of it.  Add the rest of your buttons and show it off.

I have quite a handful of vintage ties and this was relatively easy so I am pretty sure I will continue making these.  Who knows, maybe a few will wind up on my Etsy store......of course after I nail down the button hole finishing technique or head back home to my Mom's and use her sewing machine..hehehe

Have a great evening and see ya next post...
